Lady Eboshi

EBOSHI

Lady Eboshi is certainly the third main character of the movie. She's the leader of the human's clan wich are opposed to the animals. She's leading her troop against the Lords of the Court who are coveting wealth producing at the forges of Tatara.
Eboshi is an humanistic militant since she devotes herself to manage a community offering the best way of life to her people. She buys back some women who were sold in cities. She learns them to work inside the forges and for some to use Ishibiya (Stone fire arrow). Women take a huge part in those tiny society, thing exceptional for this period. Because of Lady Eboshi's kindness, also men find a way to get rid of deplorable life's conditions under the system in place. Eboshi welcomes the invalids too. Nobody would take care of them. They live inside some huts a bit away from the forges.
Lady Eboshi is using the industrialization like a way of development and emancipation. She wants to create a better society. The only way to guarantee a good life to the communiauty is to create wealth. It's possible but it means to loot the montain around. Before it needs to supply the foundry with hoods then, to clean the hills to be able to exploit the ore's deposits , they are abundante in the moutain. This seems to be totally normal into Lady Eboshi's logic and it's almost naturally than the animals defender of the forest are appearing as enemis. Eboshi thinks the best solution is to take its people from the forest. She also imagines to get ride of the supreme God: the animals would run away from the Shishi Gami. Maybe Jiko Bou put this idea in her mind to hurge her to behead the Stag God.
Inspite of those very differents stands, Eboshi gives hospitality to Ashitaka who has saved two of hers. In a generaly way, it's a fair character and honest too but, she's confined in analysis of facts. At the same time than the fight against the animals Lady Eboshi manages a real war against the authorities'army. She's a rebel who lives with her forges on the fringes of the society. As she can't make up her mind to let strangers from Tatara take her own production , she's leading with determination some violent battles. In particular because of the Ishibiya (Stone fire arrow), quite uncommun at this time, her troops succeed.
Eboshi is assisted by GONZA. The latter has got more a mind of a military leader. He's got the same determination than Lady Eboshi but he's less calm and less shrewd. He seems so as the more radical character from Tatara. He's the only one to be suspicious about Ashitaka, he suspects him to be a spy. He's also the only one to prevent Ashitaka to leave the forges with San. Gonza
